Gower Peninsula 2017 Pictures Day 1

We woke up at 6AM as planned and were out the door by 6:30AM after wasting no time getting up up and away. Traffic wasn't too bad and once we were past the busy M25 and M4 to Reading it was smooth going. We soon arrived at Chievely services just before 8AM where we had a breakfast break before continuing Westwards along the M4. The weather had been nice in England but I knew there was a weather front ahead. We crossed the Severn Bridge into Wales where we caught up with the bad weather. It was wet from Newport to Swansea. However it was still a nice drive. I took it slow in Wales to try and time our arrival at Mumbles Head for when the rain cleared. We got to Mumbles Head about 10:30AM and indeed we had a dry slot for a while. We explored for just under an hour before moving on.

As the weather deteriorated a bit we set off Westwards and followed the Coast as we drove on to Rhossili.

Langdown Bay, just West of Mumbles Head.

On the way the Kings Head Inn called Renée asking if we would like to book a table. We did so for a 6:30PM dinner and while on the phone we managed to extend our stay an extra night until Tuesday.

We parked in a National Trust car park at 12:35PM. We walked along the cliff top to Worms Head. The tide was high so the causeway to the islands was underwater. The view was spectacular though!

Then after doubling back past the car park we took a path down to the beach. After exploring as the tide receded, and watching surfers in action, we set off back up towards the car park as the sun poked through the low clouds a bit. On the way up we paused at a bench where I ate some food. We returned to the car soon after 2PM.

We drove to the King's Head for 2:45PM. First we had a couple of diet cokes as we were thirsty and a bit early. Then we checked into the Inn just before 3PM as our room was ready. Meanwhile the weather was improving with more sunshine. After checkin and bringing our luggage in we had a much needed rest and tea in the room.

At 4PM I went online and managed to book the boat trip for 11:30AM tomorrow. Then we went out and drove to the Hill End car park by the beach. We walked along the beach to Ynys Lanwol Island at the end (accessible by foot after clambering over rocks as it was low tide) which I explored while Renée waited on beach. I saw a Painted Lady butterfly there before I returned to Renée. Then we walked back to start to drive back. We had returned to the room at 5:55PM.

After freshening up we went to the pub for a drink before dinner. We sat at our table that was reserved for us at 6:05pm. After diet cokes. chicken pie and vegetarian pizza we finished off with baileys and disaronno and coke before a look around outside as we returned to our room.

We returned to our room by 7:30PM to retire for the night. We looked at the day's photos before an early night since we were exhausted after a long day.
