20051227_SnowCrystals.jpg
2 shots taken a few minutes apart of wave clouds forming late in the day above Lasham airfield. Looking Northeast just after sunset in Kenton, I found a purple sky above a layer of cloud. Eerie colours. I couldn't resist taking pictures during a heavy snow shower. The snow melted away in a few hours.

20051118_Frost1.jpg

20051118_Frost2.jpg
Sun shining through cirrostratus to form a 22 degree halo. One of the best sunsets I've seen this year. Shots of the moon after dark. At 1/40s exposure the lunar surface detail is visible. But at 1s exposure a pretty halo appears (revealing cirrostartus cloud) along with nearby Mars. Frost buildup on grass and leaves. Where it hasn't melted by day it has built into large crystals.

20051119_Frost.jpg

20051119_FogBow.jpg
Sunrise on a foggy morning. Long needle shaped ice crystals form a mini forest on a wooden rail. 3 shot panorama of a fog bow. Notice the white arc caused by sun shining strongly into shallow fog.

Looking Northeast towards Holmfirth from a view point on Upper Heyden in the Peak District. A small cumulus shaped like a jellyfish. The sun seen through a cumulus cloud while at it's base.

20051019_Cunim.jpg
Two sets of waves in cirrus at almost 90 degrees to each other. A cloud shaped like a base jumper off a larger oddly lit cumulus. More lively development from the 19th, resulting in heavy showers / thunderstorms.

20050628_Lightning6.jpg
My first successful attempts at capturing lightning. After dark my successes became far more spectacular as longer exposure times made capturing the lightning a lot easier. Lightning3 is by far my favourite.

Flying west in a 777 at sunset. Approaching terminator behind us. 2 hour sunset ahead of us (looking over the wing) slowly escaping. Sunset as seen from a hotel room in New York. The pond in the Southeastern corner of Central Park still has lots of ice and snow on it. One of many slowly melting patches of snow.

A collection of closeups of ice crystals that formed on the aeroplane's window. Cirrus passing just a hundred or so feet above the wing.

Falling snowflakes. A distrail (opposite of contrail) seen after sunset. Snow falling. The flash made them look like falling pins. These snow grains look like little diamonds. A virga (fall streak) falling out of a dull overcast sky.

20050108_Saturn.jpg

20050114_ContrailShadow.jpg
My least worst attempt at snapping Comet Machholz near the Pleiades. The comet is the green fuzzy thing bottom right. My first attempt at capturing Saturn with a webcam / 80mm telescope combination. Not spectacular but a start. A contrail casting a shadow. The sun was low to the left and the cirrostratus looks like it is above the contrail.
