A trip to the Sky Garden with a friend. Tickets were free but had to be booked in advance. I didn't actually realise that 20 Fenchurch Street is the Walkie Talkie, a famous sky scraper in London. It was great exploring up there. The garden was small but pretty, and the views of London were outstanding with a great view South over the Thames, the Docklands to the East, St. Pauls and West London all the way to Wembley to the West, and the Cheesegrater, Gherkin and other City towers to the North. Tea and nibbles were expensive but can't really argue having free entry and tea with such a cool view! I hope to return there next year.

After leaving the Sky Garden it was bright and mild so I walked all the way to Ocford Street, passing Bank and St. Paul's Cathedral en route via Holborn. After a bit of shopping I then took the tube to Wembley where I visited the London Designer Outlet for some good bargains on my way home. There were nice Christmas lights here too.

Two nights of fireworks displays. On the 6th we went to a new event at Horsenden Hill Golf club. It was a bit disorganised with a bonfire that didn't light and some rather naff amateur flame dancers and the fireworks were 50 minutes late and the ground very soggy after a day of heavy rain. But the fireworks in the end were pretty. On the 7th we returned to Ealing Cricket club. We had high expectations for this evening. It was a quagmire as expected but we were prepared! However they were also late running. A laser display beforehand was dreadful, like a poor version of the 80's. But the fireworks were good as always. Overall the best fireworks night by far was Lasham, with a decent atmosphere, good food, and well behaved kids (both these events they ran amock and people were rather unpleasant and rude) and a decent bonfire and fireworks. Perhaps next year I'll only bother with Lasham if the weather is good for that one.

A visit to Butterfly World in some typical cold and wet August weather. No butterflies were to be seen outside but the tropical butterflies were present in their tent as well as other insects and spiders. It was a good job we visited today as the following winter we learnt that Butterfly World had closed down, having been unable to find funding to build the planned tropical biome for 10,000 butterflies. I hope next year someone will take it on and maintain the landscape and its butterfly habitats.

Photos 10th April - 26th August 2015 - Cucumbers and Wild Flowers.

I planted cucumbers on 10th April and Countryfile wild seeds on 1st May. They have been growing nicely in the summer heat as you can see below. A very soggy and cold August however saw an early end to the cucumber crop and the wild flowers also ended this month. The last harvest was in late August. After that the plants slowly died off one by one during September. Apart from a couple of bitter cucumbers most of them were delicious and sweet.

During a spell of bad weather while on holiday I decided to ditch my old furniture and build some new items while I had the time to spare. I bought a new desk, pedestal, shelving desk addon and a chest of drawers from Ikea. The under desk drawer later got removed to make more leg room. The old furniture went to a local charity shop. The new furniture is much more modern and the slightly narrower desk gives me more floor space. My subwoofer ended up in the cupboard hidden away nicely and all the extra storage space was very useful. The computer went on the floor by the wall.
