A birthday trip into Central London. After a go on a somulator in the Science Museum, a walk through Hyyde Park took us past Winter Wonderland to Holborn for lunch in My Old Dutch before moving on to a theater later on for a show.

In May a Blackbird built a nest on the window ledge next to a busy staircase in the office in Camden Town. She laid 4 eggs, which hatched into 4 chicks. Both parents fed and looked after them until they fledged in June. See the Blackbird Nest 2013 page for all the pictures and the story.
A walk along the Regent's Canal. This section was just West of the London Zoo aviary. A nice path half way up the bank surrounded with foliage. The white flowers are Cow Parsley. There were also plenty of common butterflies in the sunshine.

This morning I visited Perivale Wood while the sun was shining. Normally the wood is only open to members but today there was an open day. So I thought I'd take a look. It really is a pretty and diverse wood, with carpets of bluebells and many other plants and animals making up a healthy woodland.

With recent snow, there have been a number of winter visitors to the garden that normally stay in more rural areas. The Redwing was one of a group of 6 or 7, while the Fieldfare was on its own (although a flock of hundreds have been reported on Horsenden Hill a few miles away). The shots are rather long range and at the limits of my camera, but enough to positively ID them. Both Redwings and Fieldfares are similar in size to a Blackbird (the Fieldfare was slightly bigger), and are members of the Thrush family.
