Giessen Shopping

I woke up at 7AM and played games and updated my diary until others awoke by about 8AM. We had breakfast and chatted, and decided to go to Giessen for shopping. There was a severe thunderstorm warning for our area but all was dry and sunny as we set off at 10AM.

Round the corner from Dagmar's house was the station. We bought tickets and were aiming for the 10:09 train but uh oh! It had been cancelled. That wasn't a great start. The next train was an hour later. However Dagmar checked the information display in case we could bus it, and indeed there was a suitable route. We caught the 10:21 number 125 bus to Niederbiel where we had a 3 minute wait for a 185 Bus to take us on to Wetzlar Bahnhof (bus station). Then we caught the 11:02 train to Giessen which it stopped at on its way to Frankfurt. It got us there just 10 minutes earlier than waiting for next train at Stockhausen but allowed us to see more of the countryside and be on the move. Although the route wasn't that pretty and it was full of people who would have been on the cancelled train. We arrived at Giessen at 11:15AM and walked to the main shopping street. We proceeded to look in various clothes shops. Admittedly for me it was a bit boring as the shops were all ladies wear only. But Renée was in her element. At 12:10PM we stopped for a 10 minute coffee and loo break at Soebenkorn café. We also had some nice organic croissants, one regular and one wholemeal (which was delicious). Then we walked to Galerie Neustädter Tor which was a nice air conditioned mall. We had a look around the shops and investigated flared jeans for Dagmar which she'd been looking for for months without much luck.

Stockhausen station. Spotted in Wetzlar. My namesake is a Jeweller! Mathematical museum in Giessen. Another classical looking building in Giessen.

As a Red Dwarf fan I found these fridges rather amusing. Giessen station building. Some nice features near the station. Waiting for the train to Wetzlar.

Wetzlar Shopping

Then we walked back to the station to catch the 13:21 train to Wetzlar. It was 5 minutes late but that was significantly better than another cancellation! Cumulus was now building into showers to the North out the starboard window and it was feeling toasty. We got to Wetzlar at 1:40PM. The heat hit us as we got off the air conditioned train. However the Forum Mall was right by the station and it had nice air conditioning. Again the clothes shops were almost all ladies only. I was getting pretty bored and tired. I connected to the slow but free wifi and went online. We left at 2:20PM after Dagmar found some new boot cut trousers with Renée's help. She thanked us by kindly buying some nice ice cream that we grabbed from a seller on the way out. There were even vegan options for Dagmar. The dark chocolate scoop was especially rich and tasty.

Some nice cloudscapes accompany us on the train to Wetzlar. This (and air conditioning) is the best way to deal with a roasting hot day. Looking back at the mall as we wait for the train to take us back to Stockhausen.

Train Back to Stockhausen

Then we caught the 14:33 train towards Limburg to get back to Stockhausen. The train soon arrived back at Stockhausen, and by 3PM we were back in Dagmar's place.

We had never seen so many brand new cars. This freight train was long. More cloudscapes seen from the train home. A random landscape shot.

It was roasting hot in the sunshine but hopefully looking good for a BBQ. The house was nice and cool thankfully. Dagmar served up the watermelon and I also had a nice cup of tea. After a rest and chat dinner preparations started at 4:30PM. We decided to cook inside on grill as by now it was very gusty and showers were incoming. It was a good call as rain arrived at 4:50PM. Never mind. Big thunderstorms appeared to miss us which was good for Dagmar's crops. While the food was cooking, Dagmar booked tickets for Herbstlabyrinth cave near the town of Breitscheid and booked a table at the Mama of Africa restaurant in Giessen for 6PM tomorrow. The plan was to meet up with Mathis for that.

After some debate we selected 'The Punisher' to watch from Netflix. We watched it over dinner which was ready soon after 6PM and was delicious!

A feast at Dagmar's. Amazingly vegan too.

The film finished at 8:15PM. Then we checked out the news before watching Sherlock Holmes. Dagmar hadn't seen it before and enjoyed it. It finished at 11:20PM, after which we retired for the night.
